What is the course about?

This is a Learning for Personal Interest course.

A 10 week course that looks at different and creative ways of engaging with photography around the home and garden, (or daily walk during lockdown). The course focuses on creativity but full technical support will be given.
• Learn some fun techniques to improve picture making.
• Learn how “photographer’s see” by looking at some great practitioners and examples.
• Learn techniques such as depth of field, and black and white photography to lift the most mundane subjects to make extraordinary photographs.
• Learn how to improve composition to make more dynamic images.
• Undertake weekly assignments to challenge creativity and develop camera skills.
Each session will cover a specific technique with tutor presentations and discussions. Students will be emailed class notes/hand-outs before each session to ensure they can prepare. There will be a practical activity in each session where students are expected to practise the lessons techniques.
A time booking system will also be in place during the class, so students can have 1 to 1 sessions with the tutor to facilitate each week’s task.
Students will be expected to spend some time between classes developing their skills and home assignments will be set. We will also be using Padlet, a great secure online picture resource where students can share their images with the class and join in with peer to peer support and tutor feedback.

What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?

None. This is an introduction course to the fantastic world of photography and ideal for anyone that wants to improve their pictures, or consider taking photography up and a creative hobby and perhaps undertaking further courses with Aspire. However those with more experience are more than welcome, join to get out of a “photography” rut and engage with some new creative techniques!

What do I need to bring with me?

Please have the following material ready to use during your online class:
A DSLR or Bridge camera. Memory card, battery, notepad, pen, computer, and good internet access.
