What is the course about?

The course is about learning to create botanical illustrations of Summer Roses. There will be an emphasis on drawing with precision and accuracy, including observational drawing of botanical structures, the science of botany, composition skills, and using watercolour painting techniques suitable for botanical illustration.

What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?

No formal qualifications are needed but an enthusiasm for the subject is essential. This workshop is suitable for all abilities, from complete beginners to those who already have some experience.

What do I need to bring with me?

H or 2H pencil (standard or propelling); Good quality rubber or putty rubber; Min A4 sized sheets of hot pressed watercolour paper preferably 140lb/300gsm* either loose or in a pad; Good quality drawing paper e.g. cartridge paper; Tracing paper; Watercolours, brushes, palette, rag etc. Although specimens will be provided, students are welcome to bring along their own *The tutor will have some hot pressed paper available to purchase as it can be difficult to get hold of. Please bring refreshments and a packed lunch.
