What is the aim of the course?
This course has been developed in a way that will enable you to progress from an absolute beginner to a competent, independent user of the computer, internet and email. You will be introduced to the mouse and keyboard and given the opportunity to build your confidence with the computer in a jargon-free and friendly environment. The start of the course will cover the use of the mouse and keyboard and will progress to creating folders, creating documents, saving documents and editing documents. You will also learn how to use the internet efficiently and safely, and send emails. As a guide, by the end of the course you should be able to: Develop your use of mouse controls; Open; create; edit and save a simple document, Carry out basic formatting techniques such as changing font colour and size, Know the difference between "save" and "save as", Identify computer and Internet security tools Find specific information on the internet and send an email, Carry out basic computer maintenance, Identify error messages and updates. In the instance of a Government imposed lockdown, this course will pause until it is able to begin again. No refunds will be made due to a Government imposed lockdown.

This course is being offered as a FREE one hour session to Getting Ready for Learning Online. The session will provide you with an understanding of how to attend online courses with Aspire Sussex and to learn about how our learning platform will be used during our online courses.
The session will include support on: how to use the Microsoft Teams application and its functions; using the virtual classroom to communicate with your tutor between sessions, and understanding some of the language used when studying online.
The session will help you get started on Aspire’s learning platform, it will not provide tech support on how to get online.
