You will explore processes and techniques to enable you to record accurately and use a variety of materials to create graphic and expressive representations of the subject matter. Themes will vary from still-life objects and the human form to abstract approaches using completed studies as the starting point. Your tutor will help you set personal goals for you to aim for and provide regular feedback on how you are doing. On this course the tutor will guide you through a series of exercises to explore colour mixing with your favourite medium.

You will begin by making a colour wheel / chart. Then identify which colours in your ‘kit’ are warm and cool. You will then work with the support of the tutor to identify and mix specific colours, along with using experimenting with underpainting.

With outcomes focusing on observational drawing to create preparation sketches or working notes for larger completed works. Some students may also work on paintings that will be mounted in a professional manner and will be supported to exhibit locally. This course will include some basic art history and student research. Students will be encouraged to visit online museums and galleries to broaden their chosen interests.
