New and beginner students will work in graphite and charcoal to develop your observational drawing skills. Returning and advanced students will progress further with your preferred medium and develop your own skills, goals and initiatives. With outcomes focusing on observational drawing to create preparation sketches or working notes for larger completed works. This is an introductory course designed for those who would like to sample and build upon a wide range of drawing and painting techniques, whilst developing a positive mind-set in what can be achieved using a step by step approach. You will explore or hone any existing skills through both representational exercises and create abstracts using both wet and dry materials in a variety of techniques. Techniques using a range of media are covered including; pencil, pastel, charcoal, crayons, and water based paints. Students will experiment with mixing, blending, application methods and techniques and test the difference between brush and painting knife styles in order to create a least two paintings of substantial quality. This is essentially, a Fine Art course. Students will learn how to creatively process the journey in producing artworks through Research, Investigation and Experimentation which will lead to a ‘final’ artwork; finished piece. The course is designed to encourage independence and initiative in creative decision-making. Responding to a theme, students will develop ideas and produce artwork where the genre, subject matter, focus, media and techniques will be directed by the individual student; driven by their chosen creative process. On the journey, students will learn how to focus research and investigation, ways of experimenting creatively and how to analyse and evaluate the work of artists and in turn, their own artwork. The aim of the workshop is to introduce the pleasure of drawing the human face and head; progressively developing confidence in both observation skills and the use of wet and dry materials, in a friendly and informal atmosphere.
