What is the course about?
You will learn and develop a wide range of techniques in watercolour painting that will help to build your confidence in this medium. These will include flat, overlaid, graded and blended washes. You will also be shown simple methods of colour mixing and some exciting texture techniques. As a guide, by the end of the course you will have produced samples of watercolour techniques, colour mixing charts and completed several finished pieces of work
Your tutor will help you set personal goals for you to aim for and provide regular feedback on how you are doing. All lessons will have learning aims which the tutor will share with you and they will track how you are progressing throughout the course and keep you informed.
This is a practical course with lots of opportunities for getting hands-on experience using a wide variety of techniques.
What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?
This is an established course that is designed for beginners and those with some knowledge of watercolour painting.
What do I need to bring with me?
Suggested materials you will need for the course: A4 cartridge pad, 2H, HB and 2B pencils, an eraser and sharpener. A3 pad of Cold Pressed watercolour paper Tubes of watercolour paints: Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Red, Permanent Alizarin, Cerulean Blue and French Ultramarine, or the nearest equivalent to these 6 colours. I recommend the following set of watercolour brushes as being very good value for money: Curtisward Mastertouch Aquamarine Round Artists Watercolour 8 Brush Set. Circular white plastic palette with 10 wells, 2 water pots, kitchen paper, some cling film.
Are there any additional costs?
Some additional items will be required during the course. Your tutor will discuss these with you.
What can I do next?
The course rolls on, so if you want to continue you can sign up for another ten weeks. You can do projects that are more challenging and of your own choice. There are also a number of other interesting art classes available throughout the year, exploring different media, techniques and styles.
