What is the course about?

The course gives a structured introduction to painting with watercolour. Starting with basic techniques and the use of materials, you will develop your knowledge of colour, colour mixing and composition. We will explore a range of subject matter including still life, landscape and you will use what you have learnt to make simple paintings.

What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?

You do not need any prior knowledge or experience to attend this course.

What do I need to bring with me?

Suggested materials to bring include; a HB or B pencil, a soft rubber, A4 or larger sized sheets of watercolour paper preferably 140lb/300gsm either loose or in a pad, selection of watercolour tubes (to include red, yellow and blue), palette or white plate for mixing paint. Additionally it is suggested that you bring, masking tape, kitchen roll, notebook/sketchbook and a pen to make notes.

Some additional items will be required during the course. Your tutor will discuss these with you.

What can I do next?

This course will roll over into the continuation course next term. After 2 years on this course you should discuss with the tutor moving forward onto the improvers course. You can also enrol on other painting and drawing courses with Aspire; start to practice on your own or with friends; submit work for national or local exhibition; join a local art society.
