In the instance of a Government imposed lockdown, this course will pause until it is able to begin again. No refunds will be made due to a Government imposed lockdown.
To gain a broad understanding of the artistic, intellectual, sociological and political events that led to the development of Contemporary Art in after the second world war. We will be looking at the paradigm shift from Europe to America, charting the rise of the Abstract Expressionists and how this related to other movements such as Minimalism and Pop Art. We will Identify key artists/techniques/works that relate to these changes and introduce/imbed key terminology and language used to support these developments. Sessions will consist of visual presentations and class exercises as well as two planned visits to galleries displaying relevant work (held on Saturday’s)

You will learn how to create in a wide variety of forms, understanding the power of visual communication to convey ideas and concepts through images. You will learn how to use drawing, typography, collage, mixed media, and painting to communicate your ideas, emotions, and narratives through images. You will explore many different skills and techniques used by visual communicators working in industries such as art, graphic design, illustration, and publications.
The course will look at how to use composition, colour theory, visual narrative, layout, typography, and mixed media to create ways to communicate through images. This course aims to allow you the space to create using a variety of mediums and materials supporting you to experiment and develop your own visual communication style and creative voice.
