What is the course about?
In the instance of a Government imposed lockdown, this course will pause until it is able to begin again. No refunds will be made due to a Government imposed lockdown.
The course aims to introduce you to the Latin language and its structure, to increase your appreciation of Latin expressions still used today and to provide insight into some aspects of life in ancient Rome. The course will cover the basic structure of Latin, building to an ability to read and translate short stories. We will also look at Latin expressions and abbreviations used in English.
All lessons will have learning aims which the tutor will share with you and they will track how you are progressing throughout the course and keep you informed.
What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?
This course is for beginners with a very basic knowledge of the language, or for trusty returners. If you are unsure of your level, please contact your local centre and ask to speak to the tutor for further assistance. As a guide, by the end of the course you should be able to read and show that you understand simple sentences, translate some short sentences into Latin; recognise and understand some Latin expressions and quotes.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring a pen and paper. You may also like to bring a folder/ring binder for handouts.
