What is the course about?

The focus of classical mythology is often upon the men, the great heroes of the ancient world such as Hercules, Theseus and Jason. In this course we will examine the rôle of women in some of the stories: from goddesses to wives; from strong independent women to those who seemingly appear only as a prop to their men.
We will examine not only the tales that come down to us from antiquity, but also the reception of these women in later times through literature and works of art.

What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?

This is a course for anyone interested in the ancient world. No previous knowledge is assumed.

What do I need to bring with me?

You may like to make notes, so a pen and notebook, and perhaps a folder for handouts.

Are there any additional costs?

No
