2 hours x 7 sessions
What is the course about?
The course looks at the development of German art during the 20th Century – including a prologue of why German art is distinct from other art in Europe.
We shall look at German Impressionists like Liebermann and Corinth, Symbolist artists, Expressionist artists like Kirchner and Beckmann, the Bauhaus, Max Ernst – the Surrealist, and then post-war artists like Beuys, Keifer, Baselitz and Polkar.
Germany had a traumatic time in the 20th century and its artists reflect that drama.
