What is the course about?
You will acquire the skills needed to get the best from your sewing machine. How to thread your machine correctly, to select the correct needle, thread and foot for the fabric you intend to sew, find out about additional features of your machine and how to use them.
You will create a collection of samples for future reference. Practice using the utility stitches provided as part of the machine, learn how to make buttonholes and insert a zip.
What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?
This is a course for complete beginners who have a sewing machine that they want to use with confidence. There is no requirement for previous sewing experience.
What do I need to bring with me?
Sewing machine complete with foot control, power lead, instruction booklet, tools and any attachments. An A4 folder with plastic wallets would be very useful for keeping your samples together. A half metre of Calico. A packet of Sewing Machine needles in assorted sizes which should include size 90. Machine threads – in black or coloured. A button, a zip 15cms long. Sewing kit to include pins, needles, fabric scissors, pens, pencil, eraser.
Are there any additional costs?
A small selection of zips will be available from the tutor for a nominal charge.
