Aspiring designs from ALDD students in Crawley

As Marketing and Communications Manager for Aspire Sussex, one of the favourite parts of my job is meeting students and hearing about how our classes have helped change their life.

Last week, I was invited to attend a class for Adults with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (ALDD) in Crawley to find out about a new enterprise making greetings cards that had been set up from the classroom.

It was obvious that under the guidance of one of our expert tutors, the students had developed in confidence and learnt new skills to assist the venture. Students told me how they design cards (some are drawn by hand and others are produced using a computer) and their current plans to extend the range of cards on sale to include Mother’s Day and possibly Easter cards in the coming weeks.

The group had to come up with a name, choosing “Aspire Greetings Cards”, and have learnt a whole new set of skills which includes money skills, writing letters, sending emails and researching to name just a few.

The future looks bright for the students who are planning to design other items such as mugs, badges and magnets.

If you are interested in purchasing cards produced by the group, please email me at sam.boulton@aspiresussex.org.uk. Alternatively, you can find futher information on our ALDD courses, such as how to enrol, by clicking here.
